August 9

What an awesome day! We left the Moo household at 8 this morning, with Mr. Moo and Mom ferrying us back to the trailhead via Maple Hill Campground to pick up my letters. They forgot to give them to me yesterday when we stopped by. There were 3 and I was very excited to get them. Letters make my day! We started up the trail around 9 and spent the rest of the day traveling upwards in preparation for the ascent of Camel's Hump tomorrow. There were a lot of people on the trail today - a couple of Boy Scout troops, several day hikers, weekenders, etc. I have to more careful when I step off the trail to take a whiz!

The weather today matched my mood - absolutely glorious. Our first mountain was a peak called Burnt Rock and it was so clear we could see all the Adirondack peaks plus the White Mountains of New Hampshire and plenty in between.

Tent Platform
Sharing one tent platform at Montclair Glen Shelter

Tonight we're on the only tent platform at Montclair Glen Shelter, which luckily is large enough for us both. I came very close to sleeping under the stars tonight but this mountain weather is so unpredictable that I don't dare. We knew the Boy Scouts we passed earlier would be taking over the shelter so we're very glad to be out here instead.
